Rohith Krishna S., India’s 89th Grandmaster, Celebrates Success
• Rohith Krishna S., a third-year engineering student from Chennai, became the 89th Indian Grandmaster (GM) with a victory over Romanian IM Artur Davtyan in the final round of the Almaty Masters Qonaev Cup in Kazakhstan.
• The 19-year-old expressed relief and joy in achieving his dream of becoming a Grandmaster, a pursuit he’s pursued since 2013.
• He acknowledged the support of his school and college (Sunshine, Velachery, and SSN) for making the path to GM relatively smooth.
• The Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu provided financial assistance.
• Head coach of Kameswaran Chess Academy, Chennai, praised Rohith’s diligence, patience, tactical sharpness, and quick capitalization on opponent’s mistakes.
