E20 Fuel Safe for All Indian Vehicles: ARAI’s Reji Mathai
• Reji Mathai, chief of the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), stated that E20 fuel is safe for use in any vehicle on Indian roads.
• He cited a 2021 study that found no impact on non-E20 vehicles due to E20 blend or petrol blended with 20% ethanol.
• The study tested two-wheelers and cars of 2-3 OEMs on a total distance of 1 lakh km.
• Prasant Banerjee, ED at the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, assured that car warranties and insurance would be honored by car manufacturers and insurance companies.
• Banerjee refuted assertions about a significant drop in mileage, stating that the one-fifth ethanol blend could only translate to a maximum of 6% in the base fuel’s energy output.
• He also emphasized that the loss of energy can be mitigated and that insurance and warranties would be honoured regardless of the fuel compatibility envisaged in a vehicle manual.
