De-escalation Process at Line of Actual Control Needs Forward
• External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar urges the process of withdrawing troops from the Line of Actual Control (LAC) to move forward.
• The two nations are preparing for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.
• Mr. Wang will meet National Security Advisor Ajit Doval for the 24th round of Special Representative talks on the boundary dispute between India and China.
• Mr. Modi is also expected to meet Mr. Wang before his meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the SCO summit in Tianjin.
• The de-escalation process and dismantling of infrastructure have not been completed 10 months after the leaders met.
• Mr. Modi and the Chinese President last met in October 2024, agreeing to normalize ties after a four-year military stand-off at the LAC.
