Amul MD Accuses US of Being ‘Tariff King’ in Dairy Business
• Amul MD, Jayen Mehta, argues that the US is the real ‘tariff king’ in the dairy business, despite President Donald Trump labelling India as one.
• Mehta explains that the US imposed steeper tariffs on dairy products like ghee, butter, cheese, flavoured milk, cream, and shrikhand.
• He explains that the US imposes varying import duties on different dairy products, unlike India.
• Mehta explains that milk is the largest agricultural crop in India, with over 10 crore families dependent on it for their livelihood.
• Amul milk, introduced in May last year, has been accepted by the mainstream market, with the milk being sold in more than 35 US states.
• Amul is present in 40 countries, with plans to enter Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, and France by the end of August.
