India and Qatar to Finalize FTA Terms in Early October
• India is expected to finalize terms of reference for a free trade agreement (FTA) with Qatar in the first week of October.
• Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal may visit Qatar to finalize the agreement on October 6.
• The two countries aim to double their bilateral trade by 2030.
• Doha accounts for 1.22% of India’s total trade.
• Qatar’s key exports to India include liquefied natural gas, LPG, chemicals, petrochemicals, and aluminium articles.
• Expanding FTA partners is crucial due to U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff regime.
• Trade with the European Union accounted for 11.4% of India’s overall trade in FY 2024-25.
