High Court of Karnataka adjourns hearing on petition against Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming (PROG) Act, 2025
• The court has adjourned the hearing on a petition challenging the Constitutional validity of the PROG Act, 2025.
• The Act, which banned all online Real Money Games (RMGs), is being challenged by online gaming company Head Digital Works Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi.
• The court has directed the Central government to file a statement of objections by September 8.
• The petitioner-company, Head Digital Works Pvt. Ltd., argues that the PROG Act is contrary to the settled principle that games of skill are a legitimate business activity protected under Article 19(1)(g) of the Constitution of India.
• The court is expected to examine the legislative competency of Parliament to enact the law regulating online gaming.
